Erling Haaland, a Norwegian striker, was born in Leeds in July 2000, the same year his player father Alf-Inge signed with Manchester City.

Manchester City has agreed to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland from Norway.

After City activated a 60 million euro (£51.2 million) release clause in his contract, Haaland, 21, will join in July.

The agreement puts an end to the club's search for a replacement to Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer.

"We can confirm that we have achieved an agreement in principle for Erling Haaland's transfer," City said.

"The transfer is contingent on the club and the player agreeing to terms."

Since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, Haaland has scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund, passing his City medical in Belgium on Monday.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were also interested in signing Haaland, but he chose to transfer to Etihad Stadium instead.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said earlier on Tuesday that he couldn't disclose the incoming deal due to legal issues.

"Everyone is aware of the problem. He said, "I shouldn't say since I don't like talking about the future or the upcoming season."

"New players always helps to be a stronger team," Guardiola remarked when asked what influence a new number nine would have on the Premier League champions. However, no single defender or striker will be able to address our defensive or scoring issues.

"The club must always have a long-term vision." I am completely aware of and supportive of the club's decisions."

The move would be one of the most significant of the summer.

Prior to his death, sports agent Mino Raiola was involved in the conversations, with associates carrying the process through to completion.

'He's a generational talent,' says Manchester City's signing of Haaland.

Guardiola has long expressed his desire to have a conventional centre-forward, despite City's proximity to a second consecutive Premier League title without one.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy refused to sell Harry Kane to City last summer, despite City's best efforts.

Given Kane's two-year contract and his release clause, Haaland is a more straightforward trade to close.

In 121 games for Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, and Dortmund, he has 92 league goals and was the youngest player to record 20 Champions League goals last season.

Alf-Inge Haaland, Haaland's father, played for City from 2000 and 2003, as well as Leeds and Nottingham Forest.

According to city authorities, the charge is 60 million euros (£51.2 million), not the 75 million euros previously estimated. And it's not all due right away.

Haaland will sign a five-year contract that will last until 2027, with no option for a sixth year, as is the case with many contracts these days.

The salaries are thought to be around £400,000 per week, which is comparable to what star player Kevin de Bruyne earns.

City claim that this is a fantastic bargain for a player they estimate is worth 200 million euros in today's market, and that it vindicates their choice to walk away from talks with Tottenham last summer.

Many of Europe's top teams reportedly sought Haaland, but the emotional draw of signing for the club where his father played, as well as the appeal of playing for Guardiola and being part of a group that has fought for all major prizes over the last five seasons, were the deciding considerations.
