They were apprehended in Bawku in connection with new ethnic unrest that resulted in four deaths.
His Honour Alexander Graham, the presiding judge of the Bolga circuit court, remanded the suspects to allow the prosecution to conclude their investigation.
On May 27, 2022, they will be rearranged.
ASP David Fianko-Okyere, the Upper East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said, "If investigations prove that any of the five suspects had a direct role in the killing of these victims, they would be charged." In the long-running Bawku riots, another defendant was arrested for aiding and abetting criminality.
"He is suspected of being an illegal arms dealer, and we are receiving information that he is one of the ones who gave some of the arms to Bawku," ASP Fianko-Okyere said.
