The National Ambulance Service took two other people near to the boy to the hospital after they were struck by thunder.
The boy, named as Emmanuel Doli, a former student of the Sokode Senior High Technical School, is still lying on the ground where he was struck by lightning, as residents are terrified.
"We picked the coconut at our family's home in Sokode Bagble. Our uncle owns the coconut tree, and he was aware that we were harvesting some of the coconuts. To cut it down, I myself climbed the tree. I took them from six different trees. My brother, who is now deceased, did not attempt to climb the tree.

I even compensated some of the folks who assisted me in climbing. To counter rumors that the coconuts were stolen, the deceased's brother, Selasi Kwao, said, "I merely sent him to come and sell them."
Rejoice Kwao, the boy's mother, broke down in tears as she described how she learned of his son's death.

"They've been selling coconut for quite a while." But today, I was at work when I got a call that my son had been struck by lightning. When I arrived, all I saw was a motionless boy on the floor. People pull coconuts from my brother because he looks after them. But I'm not sure what happened today. His selling has never been a problem for him. "I'm still stunned and baffled by what's happened," she remarked.
